After a month from the Russian Attack, a Quarter of Ukraine population out of their homes
The escalation of conflict in Ukraine has caused destruction of civilian infrastructure and civilian casualties and has forced people to flee their homes seeking safety, protection and assistance. More than 10 million Ukrainian people which is nearly a quarter of the population have been displaced since Russia invaded the country a month ago, the UNHCR refugee agency said.
An estimated 3.7 million people have fled to neighboring countries, while more than 6.5 million have been displaced within Ukraine, according to the Voice of America website.
UN officials say another 13 minion are stranded in the conflict zones; unable to leave because of the danger.
UNHCR Ukraine representative Karolina Lindholm Billing says everything has changed for Ukraine in the past month. She says development projects, homes, and social structures have been turned into rubble under the relentless Russian bombing.
Matilda Bogner, who heads the U.N. Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, says Russian bombers do not distinguish between people living on either side of the 500-kilometer contact line separating government- and rebel-held territories.
Up to now, Poland has hosted nearly 2,267,103 Ukrainian refugees which is the biggest number among the neighboring countries which receive Ukrainian refugees.
Putin’s justification for waging war in Ukraine was to stop the alleged mistreatment and so-called genocide of Russian speakers in the Donbas.
